The purpose of stanchions is to help guide the user on where to go, maintain a sense of order, and create a fair environment of waiting-one’s-turn. However many shops purchase more stanchions that they need and position the stanchions in an orderly fashion with too much wasted space.
Twelve stanchions position inefficiently with wasted space. An angled rope better conveys direction and motion than one at a right angle. Using angled end belts are recommended.
Ten stanchions with angled end belts gives the same results.
Poor placement of stanchions can create longer lines and an inefficient use of floor space and stanchions. Humans seek the shortest path to our destination. An angled rope better conveys direction and motion than one at a right angle.
